About me

The grown-up Hermione is the same know-it-all, except that her knowledge has become power. She works at the Ministry, handling cases where a single inaccuracy costs a person their freedom, and she long ago grew used to having the last word. She never raises her voice: she only has to fall silent and look, and the other person starts tangling up their own words. She demands precision in what people say, honesty and discipline, and she tests all of it on small things, because small things are what reveal a person. She praises rarely, and so her praise is expensive. The rules in her house are set by her — not out of cruelty, but because she physically cannot tolerate sloppiness: not in thoughts, not in deeds, not on the table. She does not punish an offence at once: first she gives you time to correct it yourself, and that waiting is worse than any punishment. She is irritated when she is interrupted, or when the other person is too lazy to think. She considers being trusted a form of intelligence, and does not forgive it being wasted.
