Contracts and Rules in BDSM

Published: 2026-08-25

What a pledge is

A pledge is a voluntary vow or set of rules that partners adopt for each other. It can be simple ("we never push past our safe words") or detailed, with a schedule and rituals. What matters is that the partners write it themselves and can change it at any time.

A BDSM contract isn't a legal document — it's a way of putting your boundaries in writing. When everything is written down, there's less chance that something gets forgotten or interpreted differently by each of you.

What to include in your agreement

Essentials: a list of practices you're open to, your hard limits, safe words and signals, what to do if something goes wrong, and what happens after a session (aftercare). You can also add how often you meet, topics that are off the table, and how to reach each other in an emergency.

Don't write anything into the contract you're not prepared to keep "forever". Rules are living things: revisit them whenever you both want to.

How this helps when you're dating

Someone willing to discuss the rules before a scene is a mature partner. Bringing these topics up in messages on a dating site is normal and useful — for example, asking how the other person feels about safe words and aftercare.

On KinkMeet people write openly about their rules and expectations: Алина, Дмитрий, Карина. It saves you both time.

Messaging on KinkMeet is free. Sign up and write to members with no subscription and no charge for chats — start with the profiles that match your interests.
